Dan Hopkins served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Communications for Colorado Governor Bill Owens. He was part of Owens' senior staff from December, 2001 through January, 2007.

Prior to joining the Governor's office, Hopkins was Director of Public Information for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). In addition, the Colorado Transportation Commission appointed Hopkins to the position of Commission Secretary. He joined the agency in 1985 when it was known as the Department of Highways.

From 1971 to 1985, Hopkins was Director of Public Relations for the Rocky Mountain AAA Auto Club. While at the Auto Club, he established the metro area's first traffic reporting network delivering rush hour traffic reports to numerous Denver radio stations.

His broadcasting experience also includes stints at several Denver radio stations including KOA and KFML.

A Denver native, Hopkins graduated from the University of Denver in 1968 with a degree in Mass Communications. A resident of Aurora since 1971, he is married with three adult children and two grandchildren.

He currently serves as Secretary on the board of the Scientific Facilities and Cultural District (SCFD) and Secretary on the board of Father Woody's Haven of Hope.
